Components Of A Robotic Cell
FANUC Robots
A robotic cell wouldn’t be much without the robots themselves! These masterpieces of modern manufacturing technology come in all shapes and sizes based on the objective for the integration.
Types of Industrial Robots:
Articulated robots
Palletizing robots
Collaborative robots (or "cobots")
Welding robots
Delta robots
End Effectors
An end effector is essentially any tool that can mate with the face plate of the robots via tool changer plate. In more advanced integrations multiple tools or inspection equipment may be used. In these scenarios, the tools usually rest on tool stands and the PLC is programmed to allow the robots to swap them out seamlessly as needed.
Cable Management and Shielding
The amount of cabling and wiring that goes into a robotic cell can be staggering. Some typical cabling includes power, ethernet for information, cooling, and pneumatics. Each of these cables must be ordered and customized to fit with the current cell, which then requires custom connections be made on the newly trimmed cabling. Many applications also require shielding of certain cables, such as EM or thermal shielding.
Linear Rail Systems
When an additional axis of movement is required, a linear rail system is an optional solution to include with the integration. Installation of a rail system allows the robots to move along a large workspace or assembly line as needed.
Safety Fences / Light Fences
Every integration needs to comply with OSHA safety standards. To achieve this, a combination of physical safety fences and laser light fences can be used in conjunction with Emergency Stop buttons located throughout. These lifesaving safety features are vital additions to keep human workers in the vicinity safe.
Tool Stands / Attachments
The end effectors used by the robots live on their respective tool stands until needed, and these tools can have many different attachments to swap out between as well.
Electrical Cabinets
The electrical cabinet or control box is where the Portable Logic Controller (PLC) lives, and the PLC directs the entire operation through ladder logic based code. The PLC sends commands to the robots, tool stands, laser fences, and controls the emergency stops. The power boxes house all the major electrical components and provide power to the robotic cell.
